The tabs below provide detailed descriptions of the genetic background and goal of our project, the techniques we utilized, and the processes we went through in order to create our transgenic flies, isolate their DNA, and ultimately sequence their genome. My blog (drosophilandi.tumblr.com) expands on some of these concepts, such as enhancer trapping and balancer chromosomes.

The primary reason I was able to understand the complex genetics behind our project was thanks to a phenomenal mentor, or in this case, two. Both Lutz Kockel and Sangbin Park, post-graduates in Dr. Kim's lab, deserve credit for their careful explanations that allowed me to comprehend my research, and Lutz deserves credit for formulating and meticulously revising much of the information on this page as well.
